The 14 Strings! Rondalla plays Filipino music and familiar Western music on 14-Stringed Filipino-style instruments (Banduria, Laud, and Octavina) accompanied by Guitar and String Bass. 14 Strings! was started as a Cornell student group by Jane Maestro-Scherer and Professor Cliff Scherer, using instruments that Cliff built here in Ithaca. The current membership is a mix of Cornell students and Ithaca community members.

Aidan O’Brien is a roots rock guitarist, songwriter, and singer. He grew up playing music in the GrassRoots community; his music has the “Ithaca sound,” though he grew up in Western Massachusetts. Though he is eighteen years old, his music is as timeless as the hills.

Athena’s Grove is a classical chamber group that loves to play unconventional music in unconventional locations. Bert Scholl & Friends: If you don’t know Bert, he plays mainly original classic Honky Tonk and Outlaw Country with a rigor and authenticity not often found in these parts. With his deep, powerful baritone voice, Bert spins tales of murder, love, crime, pain, exhilaration and salvation. People swear they can smell traces of rawhide and gunsmoke wherever he plays.

The Cornell Gamelan Ensemble plays various styles of gamelan—the term for ensembles of bronze gongs and metallophones, with assorted other instruments—but focuses primarily on that from Central Java. Founded in 1972, it consists of Cornell students and faculty, as well as members from the Ithaca community and beyond.

Cornell Ukulele Club is a student organization that specializes in ukulele music. There is no limitation to what we can play on uke. Whatever you want to hear, uke can do it.

Dew Bye Drifters: Howard and Jerry are at their best when alternating playing original songs, singing harmonies, trading guitar licks and solos and telling stories through song that transport the listener to another place and time and allow the listener to forget their lives for a moment and be totally in the moment.

Brian is an official member of Djug Django, while Ed & Diana frequently sit in. Ed Clute is the fabulous nationally-known stride pianist from Watkins Glen. Diana Leigh has played for swing dancers for over a decade, and sings regularly with her own quartet.

Ella Sarachan is an Ithaca High School student who will be singing in her fourth Porchfest. She sings jazz tunes, primarily from the Great American Songbook, and is backed by Professor Tuesday’s Jazz Quartet.

Emily Yates uses her ukelele, tenor banjo and charming soprano to tell stories about everything from sexual tension to U.S. militarism. She has recorded two full-length albums and is currently in the middle of her second nation-wide tour.

Jim and Barham (guitar and mandolin) have been blending their free form harmonies for over 20 years Jon plays an authentic driving bluegrass banjo and sings leads and backups. Ithaca Cats: Father-daughter duo Rob and Robin Steuteville play bluegrass and folk harmonies accompanied by upright bass and guitar.

Ithaca College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Stephen Peterson, will play for the 23rd annual Ithaca College Founder’s Day Concert in Dewitt Park, a celebration of the college’s partnership with Ithaca. The concert theme is “Basically British” and features trombone soloist Hal Reynolds.

Ithaca Gay Men’s Chorus is a chorus of men singing a variety of music arranged for male voices, many sung a capella.

Jenny Stockdale was raised in a cow town with one stoplight, a grange and a lot of manure spreaders. Her musical roots—nourished by her country-loving father, her bluegrass belting grandfather and probably the manure spreaders—are deep, sometimes dark and sort of all over the place. She just returned to Upstate NY from a seven-year itch in California, and she fits into the singer/songwriter category, but awkwardly, as her influences buckle together folk, gospel, Americana rock and jazz.

Mossy Top mixes up a Transatlantic stew of traditional tunes from Ireland and Appalachia with originals and covers. Band members Tom, Martha, Chrys and Bill are all related by blood or marriage (but not both).

Mostly Mandolin Quartet & Friends consists of three mandolins and a cello, with occasional exceptions. Members are: Jeff Bronfeld (mandolin), Carolyn Blake (mandolin and guitar), Todd Hutchinson (mandolin and guitar), and Suzanne Schwartz (cello, Mandocello, mandolin, ukulele). They play a mix of Irish, Scots, French Canadian, New England, old time and Southern Appalachian fiddle tunes, with occasional exceptions. The group coalesced around an abiding love for the music and a shared inability to take that love too seriously.

The Muckland Crooners are a unique 3 piece vocal jugband from the Finger Lakes Region. They play “feel-good” music on cigar box guitar, washtub bass, washboard and other homemade instruments. A Muckland Crooner performance is a fast paced show with a mixture of original tunes and familiar covers all done with a twist. It is a bit like the birth-of-Rock-n-Roll in a hobo jungle. Bill, Kevin and Tim take the instrumentation all the way down to it’s roots.

NBR (No Blood Relation) is two fathers-in-law (Jim and Charlie) and their respective sons-in-law (Matt and Trevor) who play songs by The Band, Dylan, and a variety of other traditional and contemporary folk-rock artists. Nefarious Nuns & Friends includes young musicians from 8th to 12th grade playing a range of instruments. The first act features Owen on guitar and Geneva singing and playing guitar. The second act features Jacob and Josephine playing a variety of instruments on original songs.

North Country Blues Band is a folk, blues, and folk/rock guitar duo featuring mostly music from the 60’s and 70’s, even though only one of us was even alive when these songs were hip.

Old Time Jam is a group of folks who sit around and play weekly with friends. The repertoire tends toward, but is not limited to, the Southern, Appalachian and Midwestern traditions. Some major influences and sources include Melvin Wine, Clyde Davenport, Gary Harrison, the Bruces (Greene and Molsky), Rafe Stefanini, Hammonds Family, Isham Monday, etc. We sing a little from time to time.

Peaches and Crime is an old timey cabaret act specializing in all original jazz, blues, swing and more! Their authentic costumes from the 1930’s and theatrical flare makes them quite the spectacle! With their master of ceremonies, The Professor and musical line up of Angie Diamond, Abbigail Pins, Young Catherine, Mikey the Fist, “Honest” Stephen Longfield and Ross they are quite the color cast of characters!
